Our guests, who were the graduates of the same high school, said they were very good friends. Personally, I guided foreign visitors for the first time, and was very nervous at first. Yet I could relax myself gradually thanks to their friendly smiles. At Kotokuin Temple, I explained about the Great Buddha, and we went into its inside. They gradually came alive as they patted the inside of the statue to examine the traces of the cast bronze there.
On the way from Kotokuin Temple to Hasedera Temple, one of the women bought a flower basket at a flower shop, saying, “This basket is very suitable for my flower arrangement.” As she has been enjoying flower arrangement for 25 years, she is a teacher now. At Hokokuji Temple, which we visited after Hasedera Temple, they enjoyed its bamboo grove and its Japanese garden in the background. As it was luckily a clear and fine day but terribly a hot day, we decided to skip Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine after Hokokuji Temple, though we had planned to visit it. We only explained about the shrine in the bus. The tour, which was full of smiles at every scene, was really a very satisfactory one.
