The visitors, who migrated from Sri Lanka to Australia seventeen years ago, came to Japan to tour around Japan with their daughter, who has been teaching English in Nagano since the end of last year. The time lag between Australia and Japan is only one hour, but their seasons are quite different. After arriving in Japan, in this heat of the midsummer, it must have been difficult for them to adjust themselves to our climate. Nevertheless, they seemed to be looking forward to experiencing a lot of things here in Japan.

The couple, who were born and have grown up as pious Buddhists in Sri Lanka, first had a cup of green tea at Jyomyoji Temple, then visited Hokokuji Temple, where they enjoyed the traditional Japanese atmosphere, and then visited Hasedera Temple and Kotokuin Temple.
Another male KSGG member, who had planned to guide the couple around Sankeien Garden the next morning, had a call from the husband. He told the KSGG member that his wife was not in good shape, and they would cancel the tour and leave for Nagano in the afternoon on schedule. I regret having failed to pay enough attention to the fact that they had come from midwinter Australia and arrived in midsummer Japan only a couple of days before. I was lacking in the heart of hospitality.

The tour to Sankeien Garden was cancelled because of his wife’s illness. Instead, I showed them how to buy a one-day pass of Tokyo subway, and helped them enjoy shopping.
The husband, who likes watching cricket games on TV, said the most popular sports in Australia are cricket and rugby. I couldn’t guide them around Sankeien Garden, but could offer a small service to them, for we enjoyed talking about sports a lot.
