Guiding an American woman around Yokohama & Kamakura

The visitor said her second visit to Japan was a reward of her own for having achieved a big project. She is a real pro-Japanese, for she likes anime, or animated Japanese cartoons, traditional Japanese spas and modern ones as well. She seems to have the feeling for everything in Japan in her body. Also, she was full of curiosity. I was surprised when she said, “I want to stay at a tube hotel.” She also said, “As it is happy to talk with ordinary Japanese people elsewhere, I got in touch with other SGG clubs like Odawara, Hakone, and Kyoto.” We talked and talked for three and a half hours.

② The Visitor, an Enoden train fan

How long had she hoped to get on the Enoden train? It started! She looked fascinated by the train that went shaving the eaves of the houses, and by the coastline that came into view on the way. At Manpukuji Temple, she was glued to the paintings on fusuma, or framed and papered sliding doors, and on the ceilings, which had adopted the technique of Kamakura carving. At Hokokuji Temple, when she stepped into the bamboo grove, she was moved to tears feeling as if she were in another world. When we parted at Ofuna Station, she wrote words of thanks on a card and handed it to me with some seeds of Texas state flower, saying, “When they come into bud and bloom, please remember me!” It was the moment to thank for a happy meeting.
