One of the students who majors in chemistry told us about the purpose of their summer seminar held at Shonan Village Center, which was as follows: “From now on, we will have more chances to read papers in English at academic conferences held in foreign countries. We need to network communication with foreigners and, for this effort, we should know good manners as well. Here in this seminar, we are to learn many kinds of expressions we can use in various situations we will face in the near future.” Probably, they wanted us KSGG members to show them what kind of English expressions our tour guides use when we guide visitors around sightseeing spots. At first, the KSGG members were a little embarrassed in asking the Japanese students questions in English, but, thanks to the students’ open-hearted answers, we could finish our guide feeling quite pleasant and satisfied.
