At Engakuji Temple still with traces of snow, and at Tokeiji Temple with a lot of people carrying cameras, the couple enjoyed the scent of the beautiful blossoms of Japanese plum trees. At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine they took pictures of a bride with tsunokakushi (white headdress) and drew omikuji (fortunes) with kichi (2nd best fortune) on it. They ate ginkgo nuts which they bought at a stand. We took lunch at a soba (buckwheat noodles) restaurant near Hachimangu Shrine, because they wanted to sit on tatami (Japanese mats). After that we took Enoden to Hase Station. The Great Buddha impressed both of them. The husband went inside of the Great Buddha. In the train on the way back I told them about the rise of the consumption tax and food stores in department store basements. I also told them that the third anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, March 11, would come soon and that the Earthquake victims were still having a hard life in transient houses.
