[Spots] Yamamotocho area in Naka Ward
[Visitors] A 90-year-old Canadian gentleman and his son
We tried to seek the site of the visitor’s residence which had been burnt out in Yokohama air raid during WWII, trusting his vague memory. I received various information regarding this issue from many KSGG members. The urban map drawn in 1940 by Public Works Section of Yokohama City shows the outlines of large buildings and houses, and it seemed to agree with the visitor’s memory. I sent this map to him by e-mail and we could identify the site in Yamamotocho area. At present, the tennis court of Yokohama Kyoritsu Gakuen Junior and Senior High School is situated at the site. We could also identify a place where he evacuated during Yokohama air raid, thanks to the same map. A condominium is placed at the site now. Although he planned this tour at the beginning of April, he had to cancel it because of his illness. Luckily, he could realize the plan this time.
