The visitors had long desired to visit Japan in the season of cherry blossoms. Actually, cherry blossoms that were in full bloom welcomed them. At Engakaji Temple, they were interested in a lot of things ranging from monumental Zen-style structures to tiny Jizo or stone statues, and asked me many questions. At Hokokuji Temple, they were impressed by splendid cherry blossoms in front of the main hall, beautiful wet bamboo grove after the rain, and stone lanterns covered with moss. They said, “Very beautiful!” over and over again. For lunch, we decided to have Okonomiyaki, a Japanese-style pan cake with various ingredients, for they wanted to have enjoyable and reasonable one. At this restaurant, as we enjoyed competing in making the best pan cake, we talked about their trip and work. After lunch, they enjoyed a 30-minute rickshaw ride around Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, coming back with a big smile on their faces. I have never had a rickshaw ride, but they talked about their exciting experience so lively to me. Also, at Hasedera Temple and Great Buddha, they seemed to have fully appreciated Japanese culture and history. Regrettably, we had the tour in the rain, but I hope the cherry-colored day in Kamakura will be one of good memories of their tour.
