Guiding JICA Participants around Nihon Minkaen (The Japan Open Air Folk House Museum)

[Visitors] 18 JICA participants from 15 countries, with 2 each from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and 1 each from Kenya, Bhutan, Laos, Kosovo, Jordan, India, the Philippines, Djibouti, Benin, Comoros, Senegal, and Brazil, and 2 staff members from JICA Tokyo International Center

  After getting into four groups, we went to a nearby supermarket to buy lunch and drinks, and then walked to Nihon Minkaen (The Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum).  We took lunch in one of the houses.  Although it was a little bit dark inside, KSGG members and JICA participants could sprawl and relax on the wooden floor.  After lunch we enjoyed listening to people singing traditional Japanese folk songs outside, which was a special event held once in a year.  In the afternoon, after visiting Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, we experienced dyeing handkerchiefs with natural fermented pure Japanese Indigo at the Traditional Craft Center.  They really enjoyed doing it while listening to the instructor’s explanation carefully, since it must be fun to make our own handmade goods by ourselves.
