KSGG does various activities for foreign visitors every year, such as introducing them to Japanese culture, visiting plants and factories engaging in state-of-the-art technology, and so forth. This time, we visited a waste recycling type of incineration plant in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama. Their slogan is: A transition from "disposal" to "use" of refuse. This is a sophisticated new plant that launched out its operation in 2001 to treat burnable waste.
We had snow more than 5 centimeters deep the day before, but when we visited the plant, the snow had all gone and it was a very fine day. Happily, the tour of this plant began under the blue sky with a 20-minute video presentation of the city’s waste treatment problem and the outline of the plant. One of the foreign visitors said, “The tour was very fruitful and interesting.”
