The couple from New York made their first visit to Japan. They arrived at the Port of Yokohama on a luxury passenger ship. We exchanged greetings as if we were old acquaintances thanks to our e-mails and photos we had exchanged in advance.
Luckily, as his wife was given a poncho at Hasedera Temple, it was quite helpful for her protection against cold. There were few visitors at the temple, and the couple seemed to like the atmosphere, beautiful flowers, and the garden of the temple. We visited Kotokuin Temple next. They were moved by the magnificence of the Great Buddha. Then we went to Kamakura Station by bus, and we walked around the precincts of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. For lunch, we had Japanese food, which they seemed to be fond of. We had planned to visit Sankeien Garden in the afternoon, but we gave it up because of heavy snow. Instead, we strolled Komachi Dori Street toward Kamakura Station, changed trains, and reached Osanbashi Pier. Since they had wanted to visit the places where they could see part of local people’s daily life, the public trains and buses were apparently interesting. Talking about the tour of the day at the lobby of Osanbashi Pier, they said, smiling, “Our tour of Kamakura in the heavy snow will always remain in our memory.”
