It was my first experience since I joined KSGG 4 years ago to guide my juniors of the company I used to work for. They were trainees from a factory manufacturing equipment for a thermal power generation plant under construction in the south of India.
There were only a few visitors at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, probably because it had been extremely hot those days. Hata-age Benzai-ten Shrine was surrounded with lotus flowers in full bloom. When our member “O” said, “The origin of Benzai-ten is “Sarasvati, the Indian goddess of river,” every participant’s face was kindled.
Then we went to an Indian restaurant for lunch. After giving a toast with Indian beer and leisurely enjoying authentic Indian curry to get rid of the heat of summer, we headed for the Great Buddha. However, as it was so muggy, the sweat stood on everyone’s face and, when they came out of the Buddha’s inside, the three of them sat in the shade and would not even move. As they usually stay home without going out during the daytime on a hot day in India and, as they will start their practice at a plant the next morning, we made a quick decision to skip our last spot Hasedera Temple and went straight back to Kamakura Station by bus. They said that the temperature in India is higher, but the humidity is 70% or below. They gave up before we did, as it was really a very hot day.
