After arriving at Kenchoji Temple, the Zazen session started in the meditation room called hojo (abbot’s hall).  We listened to the priest’s lecture about the proper posture of Zazen including methods of breathing and accepting keisaku (a stick used by the priest to strike a Zazen sitter) in slow Japanese as well as English.  We experienced the 15-minute Zazen meditation three times, including kinhin ( a kind of Zazen where people walk along the corridor of the temple).  Lastly, we recited Heart Sutra written in English at the end of the session.  After the Zazen meditation, sarei (a discussion with a priest over powdered green tea) was held.  As the participants asked various questions to the priest, it took longer than usual.  Zazen meditation ended after 16:00.
