The highlight of the 43-day-trip on a luxury liner was to call at Nagasaki, Osaka, and Yokohama in Japan, where the cherry blossoms were in bloom. The wife hoped that she would like to visit Tokyo again with her husband, where she had lived in her childhood, because her father had resided here. So I guided her around famous spots in midtown Tokyo.
Firstly, we went to the Imperial Palace Plaza, Seimon-tetsu-bashi Bridge (Niju-Bashi), and Ote-mon Gate. Then we walked around the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace (Edo Castle and the ruins of its castle donjon). Asakusa Nakamise Shopping Street and Sensoji Temple were crowded with a lot of people. We saw yakatabune (Japanese roofed pleasure boat) at Sumida Park, one of the famous cherry blossom viewing spots, and we also saw the typical scene of cherry-blossom viewing where people view cherry blossoms sitting in a circle called kurumaza. We took commemorative photos against the background of cherry blossoms and TOKYO SKY TREE, which we really wanted to see. After visiting Akihabara, we enjoyed commanding a 360-degree view of Tokyo from the observatory of World Trade Center Building in Hamamatsucho. The wife seemed to be impressed with the landscape of Roppongi and Azabu under her eyes where she used to live. We walked along the car-free mall in Ginza and then we took a “trial” ride on the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Tokyo to Yokohama. It was a fine day and I enjoyed guiding an Austrian couple, appreciating the meeting with a wonderful couple.
