At the request of Landmark Plaza, I provided an interpretation service for foreign visitors with 6 other members of KSGG’s Practical Chinese Club for 21 days during the APEC session. The foreigners we covered during the session numbered 117, with 36 Chinese- and 81 English-speaking visitors. Above all, we helped 69 visitors during the 8-day session, and the number of them reached 27 during the last 2-day summit conference. Even though our interpretation service was provided in strictly guarded surroundings, the atmosphere of the hall was quite sociable by virtue of friendly smiles returned from many visitors, grass-roots communication with Chinese pupils living in Japan, and an interview with a reporter from Hong Kong.
Also, at the request of Landmark Plaza, as we translated the brochures advertising its observatory on the 69th floor into Chinese and English, we could learn not a little hospitality know-how that we would put to good account in our future KSGG activity.
