International Exchange Salon (IES) hosted by Hiratsuka International Exchange Association
[Visitors] 60 AOTS trainees from 11 countries, with15 from China, 10 from Thailand, 7 from Indonesia, 6 from Vietnam, 5 each from Malaysia, the Philippines, and India, 3 from Mexico, 2 from Bangladesh, and 1 each from Peru and Nepal
[Occupations] Quality control, Automotive, Industrial machinery, Precision instrument, Air-conditioning/satellite equipment, etc.
[Languages] English, Chinese, Spanish and Japanese
[Attendants] 19 KSGG members and 2 observers, 3 IES members and 1 observer

The 60th Hiratsuka Star Festival, which is popular among children and adults, was held under its brilliant and splendid decorations. This festival showed us the changing times through the vigorous bamboo decorations modeled on such persons as astronaut Koichi Wakata and figure skater Mao Asada and through many other fantastic events.
IES (International Exchange Salon) was held at a large lawn square where the young trainees took a rest. In the comfortable tent, they leisurely enjoyed Origami, or paper folding, and calligraphy on shikishi, or a square piece of thick paper. Also, they liked playing cat’s cradle and cup and ball very much. These events have long been going on thanks to a lot of IES volunteers. I hope they will continue to support the Festival. Ms. U and some other members from KSGG cooperated with IES. After that I received a lot of thank-you memos from the trainees.
Introducing Japanese Culture

In the midsummer sunshine, we gave our foreign visitors Origami lessons in the tent of IES from 10:00 through 15:00 as an event to introduce Japanese culture. It was such a wonderful day that time flashed by.
There were some trainees among the AOTS trainees who had taken a lesson in making Japanese paper dolls before. All of them enjoyed making pretty Origami works this time, and took them home like treasure.
I received a thank-you e-mail from Ms. Y, a staff of IES: “Thanks to KSGG, we could give the foreign guests a pleasant time again this year.”
