I guided an American couple who came to Japan as the husband had suddenly been told to go to Yokohama on business. It was their first visit to Japan. At Hokokuji Temple, they were so fascinated with a beautiful bamboo grove, but declined to have a cup of powdered green tea that was too bitter for them.A fortune slip they drew at Hachimangu Shrine was ‘good luck.’ It was actually a lucky day for them. They could meet three wedding couples and didn’t meet with the rain that had been forecast. At Kamakura Museum, they appreciated images of Buddha and Hina-ningyo, or Dolls on the Girl’s Festival Day. On Komachidori Street, they strolled leisurely, tasting foods, and went in an izakaya, a Japanese pub, at 1:30 to eat several dishes, such as grilled tasty fish called ‘Hokke,’ pork cutlet, miso soup, and so on. Having shared all dishes together, all of us were full up and content. At Hasedera Temple they visited last, the wife, who saw the Japanese washroom for the first time, took a picture of it. Their impressions about Japan, a country far away from America, with a different culture, seemed to be better than expected
