We arrived at Nihon Minkaen (the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum) and explained to the participants about the architectural styles of folk houses, farm tools, and so on in the exhibition hall of the Museum House. After that we guided them to the houses of the village chief and merchants, and the gate of a samurai's residence. We enjoyed eating our lunch box we bought at a store in front of the station, surrounding the hearth in the Nohara House.
We went to the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art. I wondered if they could understand his famous phrase, "Art is Explosion." In front of the Tower of the Sun, they took photos in various poses.
At Traditional Craft Center, they tackled with making their own pieces, listening to an instructor's explanations on how to dye a cloth. They were very happy to have made their unique works, though they were different from those of Taro Okamoto. As they not only visited the old houses but also made their own handkerchiefs or bandanas for the memory of their visit, I thought they might have spent an impressive day.
