The visitors were a couple on their honeymoon and the wife’s parents. We greeted one another with a Spanish style kiss. The aroma of a fragrant olive wafted from here and there in Engakuji Temple. They thought it might be a perfume at first. As I had heard one of them had slightly injured her knee, we walked around slowly and enjoyed talking.
At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine they were very interested in a wedding ceremony at Maiden and enjoyed seeing a festival for children of three, five, and seven years of age. At lunch time they had a hard time using chopsticks. They wanted a Spanish speaking guide also in Tokyo, but they couldn’t find one. As he had to translate English into Spanish for the other family members, he said “I was so tired then.”
At Hokokuji Temple, they enjoyed drinking powdered green tea for the first time. On Komachidori Street, they ate pickles, churros from Spain, and freshly-grilled rice crackers. They were very interested in Japanese paper in a special store where small Japanese articles are sold.
At Kotokuin Temple, they were very happy to enter the inside of the Buddha. At Hasedera Temple, they were impressed with its own atmosphere that was different from other temples. They said, ”When we come to Japan again, we will contact you, and if you visit Barcelona, please let us know.” I was very happy to hear that. At Totsuka Station, I helped them get into the Shonan- Shinjyuku Line Train and said good bye to them, blowing a kiss.
