As it was a
severe hot summer day, at first, we went to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine with parasols. They drew paper fortunes, each of which was chu-kichi (average good luck) and syo-kichi (slightly good luck). They were single and excited to hear my explanations
about marriage. They bought a teapot
stand and so on in a Kamakura-bori (Kamakura
style carving) shop on the way back to the station. We skipped Hasedera Temple, and went directly
to Kotokuin Temple. They were delighted
to see the statues of the guardian dogs placed in front of the entrance, which
were presented by Taiwan. After that, we
had a seafood lunch at a restaurant near Enoshima Island, from the second floor
of which we could command a wonderful view of the sea. Next we walked up a sloping road with many
souvenir shops on both sides. We finally
got tako-senbei (octopus rice
cracker) after waiting in a long line. We
tried throwing coins into the offering box in front of the statue of Zeniarai-hakuryu-oh
on the opposite side of Hetsumiya Shrine.
Eventually, we climbed up to the Sea Candle (observation lighthouse), where
the visitors desired to go, and the scenery from there was absolutely amazing. We went to Ryuren no kane (lovers’ bell). On our way back home, we went to the railroad
crossing near “Kamakura-koko-mae” Station of the Enoden Line. It was the scene of the popular anime SLAM DUNK. My pedometer counted 21,000 paces that day.
