We walked toward Iitalia-Yama Park and
Diplomat’s House via Yamate Catholic Church from Saint Maur International School. On the way, I explained about the western
style houses, the history of the opening of the port, the foreign settlement, the
history of Christianity in Japan, mission schools for girls at Yamate Area, and
so on. Because of the time schedule, at
Italia-Yama Park, we visited only Bluff No. 18 House, which was used as a
residence for the priest of Yamate Catholic Church. We could imagine how this historical facility
was really used in the past. All the
parents were curiously listening to me. Then
we went down to JR Ishikawa-cho Station and then walked toward Motomachi-Chukagai
Station, explaining about how Motomachi Shopping Street had changed and about
the old stores, and then walked up to America-Yama Park and to Yokohama Foreign
General Cemetery, explaining about the area. After the tour, we had lunch with some of them. Returning to Saint Maur International School,
we said goodbye.
