Queen Mary 2 – Welcomed by Volunteers at Daikoku Pier

A luxury cruise ship, Queen Mary II (154,499 ft.), a palace on the sea, docked at Daikoku Pier of Yokohama Port, with her hull glistening in the morning sun. This is her second visit since March 6 last year. I took her passengers from the off-limits bonded area to the pier to YCC (Yokohama Cargo Center) by shuttle bus. An Australian couple was pleased to see their acquaintance for the first time in 13 years. A group of Chinese passengers fully satisfied themselves with delicious dishes and shopping. They were so happy with our service, praising that Japanese volunteers are very kind. We saluted each other with “Xiexie (Thank you)” and “Zaijian (See you again).”
Queen Elizabeth II, which Yokohama citizens loved so much, had already retired from the service. It was sold off to Dubai, and will be a floating hotel there. However, as Dubai cannot raise several million dollars to remodel it into a floating hotel, the situation is unpredictable. “What happened twice will call for another.”　I heard from one of the passengers that Queen Mary II would anchor in Port of Yokohama next March.
