It was a perfect day for sightseeing with a clear blue sky and yellow, wine-colored leaves. At Hachimangu Shrine there were a lot of families celebrating their children aged 7, 5, and 3 in kimono or in full dress, which we call Shichi-Go-San festival. I reserved a table for lunch at Kaiko-tei Restaurant with a rafter roof, which we call Gassho, near Hasedera Temple. The visitor was very pleased with both Kaiseki-ryori, or tea-ceremony dishes, and the atmosphere of the restaurant.
At Kotokuin Temple, which President Obama referred to in his speech when he was
in Japan, she took some pictures of the Great Buddha. At Hasedera Temple, we happened to meet some KSGG members guiding AOTS trainees and JICA participants. We joined in their tour to enjoy their explanation of Hase Kannon, as we had a lovely walk around Hasedera Temple together. The visitor had planned to go on a trip to Western Japan and Okinawa for two weeks. I’m happy if her visit to Kamakura will be one of her pleasant memories of Japan. I was also impressed with KSGG members’ wonderful teamwork.
