The visitor was an American man who had been living for 31 years in Japan and is in charge of introducing Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan Tourist (a website where the reporters introduce various places in Japan in English). The highlight of the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum is the four Gassho Zukuri style houses relocated from Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture and Shirakawago in Gifu Prefecture.
The visitor was so impressed with its mighty architecture that he took many pictures of the houses. As the volunteers for the Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum was by the fireside keeping the fire going in some old houses, we talked with them. I explained about the Kabuki stage relocated from Mie Prefecture, showing him a close up picture where Kabuki, Yoshitsune Sennbon Zakura, performed on November 3 of last year. In the yard, some volunteers were making shimenawa, sacred straw rope for the New Year.
On our way, we ate soba (buckwheat noodles) for lunch at a restaurant on the first floor of the Yamashita House. It took about three hours to see 25 old folk houses and the others. He was so pleased with a present from KSGG members. The fine weather enabled us to have a comfortable half-day tour.
