Ten KSGG members participated in the 5th Annual Event of Viewing Cherry Blossoms at Kotokuin Temple. Its inner garden separated by fences from outside looked like another world. We calmly walked around looking at drooping cherry blossoms that had started to drop. Even the Great Buddha looked even gentler, and a little different, than as usual.
I imagined that Akiko Yosano, a Waka poet, must have looked at the Amida, or the Great Buddha, from this angle when she wrote her thirty-one syllabled verse:
Sakyamuni in Kamakura, a Buddha as he is,
Is certainly a good-looking man
