I guided a surgeon and his wife around Minato Mirai 21 area, who came to Japan to attend International Surgical Week / ISW2011 held at Pacifico Yokohama. I was worried about how they could enjoy the tour in the hot weather with a height of 30 degC, because they are from the country near the Arctic whose average highest temperature in August is 14 degC. Luckily, it was a bearable day as it was cloudy with the highest temperature of 25 degC.
They said they would go around Japan for about a month after leaving Yokohama. They seemed to really enjoy browsing through the Kimono and things Japanese departments and the basement food floor at a department store as well as having Japanese food for lunch, just like doing as the proverb says, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” They said, “We like Yokohama,” and also said, “This volunteer guiding system is wonderful because it gave us a chance to spend time with a citizen in Yokohama and talk about various kinds of topics.” When I heard their words, I forgot how tired I was.
